Recruitment for the Chambersburg Hospital Healthcare Career Institute Program (HCI) has begun.

Healthcare Career Institute Program:

Chambersburg Hospital Health Careers Institute (HCI) is a course designed for high school students in grades 11 and 12 to explore various healthcare careers in real life experience. In the fall, it is an 18 week, 135 hour course.  Students report to Chambersburg Hospital from 7:30 to 9:30am Monday – Friday.  The summer session (June 11, 2018 – July 13, 2018 with July 4, and 5 off) takes place for 5 weeks in the summer from 8:30 AM – 12 noon.

The due date to submit applications for this program is February 23rd.

ONLY 10th and 11th grade students can apply.  Students need to have good grades, especially in Science and Math ( at least a 3.2 or higher ) and excellent attendance.

There is a selection process to be a part of this program.  Students please visit the following website: www.summithealth.org/educationresources . Once on this page click on high school student tab and then scroll down to the HCI application site.  The students fill out an electronic application and MUST download the materials and directions.  Failure to follow the process could deny a student an interview.

HCI Information Sessions for 2018 are conducted to learn about the program and to see if you meet the criteria to apply. Choose from one of the following 2018 Information sessions:

January 22nd or 24th, 7:00 PM in Lecture Rooms B & C, Chambersburg Hospital, and February 5th, 6:30 PM in the Waynesboro Hospital Main Conference Room.

Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week (PFEW) is a one-of-a-kind summer program that offers in-coming high school juniors and seniors a unique and challenging opportunity to see what it is like to run their own business.

Participants will make up an “imaginary” management team where they will learn first-hand about the Free Enterprise System. Their task – turn their failing company into a financial success! They will develop their own marketing strategies, design a website and in essence, make all of the decisions that are demanded of real life company executives. All work and no fun–NO WAY! PFEW provides students with a chance like no other – to experience what it is like to live on a college campus.

Week 2 – July 8-14 (Lycoming College)
Week 3 – July 22-28 (Lycoming College)
Week 4 – July 29 – Aug. 4 (Lycoming or  PCT)

The Health and Biomedical Sciences Summer Camp, will be held at Lebanon Valley College from June 24-29 and July 22-27, 2018.

The goal of the Health and Biomedical Sciences Summer Camp is to provide a window into the scientific basis of human health.  Through lectures and hands-on laboratory investigations in state-of-the-art laboratories, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of molecular biology, pharmacology, immunology, biochemistry and medical ethics.  Students will learn how laboratory science can be translated into improved human health, and they will engage in investigative experiences that will allow them to apply their laboratory skills to real life problems.  In addition, students will interact with practicing professionals in fields such as medicine, physical therapy, toxicology, genetic counseling and biomedical laboratory research. The Health and Biomedical Sciences camp will provide a fun, challenging and engaging college environment in which students will develop a deeper understanding of what it means to be a biomedical scientist and health professional.

HomeThe University of Pittsburgh Health Career Scholars Academy is a four-week, residential summer program that brings gifted high school sophomores and juniors to the University of Pittsburgh’s Oakland campus. The Scholars Academy provides hands-on experience and education in numerous health careers. The program also assists students with leadership development, enhances their social and academic preparation for college, and encourages a sense of responsibility for the status of health in their community. American Legion Auxiliary  Keystone Girl’s State:

June 18th through June 23, 2017 at the Shippensburg University

Potential Candidates must be Class of 2018 (Senior) Female students interested in Government and Current Events, be loyal and provide service to their School and Community, strong academic abilities, leadership and high moral character.  If chosen as our Senior High School representative, you are required to be available for the entire week in June. Gettysburg College is excited to offer several opportunities for high school juniors and sophomores to attend academic camps over the summer months.

Subjects include psychology, American government, history, creative writing, or information technology. Please find information to share with your students about our academic camps below:

  • Camp Psych – Campers will get hands-on experiences that introduce them to research in psychology during this fun, challenging, and engaging introduction to the field.
  • Campaigns and Elections Academy – This program is designed for highly-motivated students who have a strong interest in American campaigns and elections. Participants learn about the origins and evolution of democracy in America and gain hands-on experiences related to modern political campaigns.
  • Writing Camp – Students gain an in-depth introduction to all four genres of creative writing: fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and writing for stage and screen.
  • 3D Object Modeling and Printing Camp – Students will study 3D object modeling and printing starting with the basics of a 3D printer. After learning the fundamentals, they will practice designing objects.
  • Coding for Robotics & Electronics Camp – Students will gain hands-on experiences in coding, wiring, hardware, and building robots through the open source software known as Arduino. Throughout this camp, campers will learn basic electrical engineering, the physics behind electricity, and how to think like a scientist.
  • Civil War Institute Summer Conference – The High School Student Scholarship component of Gettysburg College’s annual Civil War Institute summer conference provides high school students an opportunity to explore the history of the Civil War era on the site of the war’s most decisive battle.
