This month we are beginning to see exciting developments with the project, Flagship Proud, designed to improve Shippensburg Area Senior High School facilities through monetary and in-kind contributions. As a capital campaign, Flagship Proud offers the opportunity to the Shippensburg community to donate and extend the impact of taxpayer dollars.
Here is a brief update on the three high school capital improvement projects:
1. The Shippensburg Education Foundation Athletic Committee has taken the lead on raising funds to enhance the Stadium Project. They are coordinating with the other committees to host a Kickoff Dinner February 9. The Board approved hiring the engineering firm that will design the stadium and this firm is actively studying the grounds and will come forward with a design soon. Fundraising will support concessions and restrooms at the stadium.
2. The High School Auditorium Committee has worked closely with our Facilities Director to plan for Board approved seating, flooring, wall coverings and sound system. The committee has identified three fundraising projects to improve the auditorium for performances that include a) stage projector, b) storage for performances, and c) a fly system. At the next Board meeting, the directors will be considering a proposal for the purchase and installation of new auditorium seating.
3. The High School Entry Committee has also been working with the Facilities Director to plan for signage, landscaping, and security features that will communicate pride and a welcoming entry. The committee is focused on in-kind contributions.
