School Mask Order – Update
Dear Greyhound Families and Staff:
As you are aware, on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania issued a ruling, voiding the Face Covering Order for schools issued by PA Acting Secretary of Health Allison Beam on August 31, 2021.
According to a statement from PA Secretary of Education Dr. Noe Ortega, the state has filed an appeal, which generated a stay of the Court’s ruling and keeps the order in effect. Additionally, Dr. Ortega directs schools to observe the school masking order throughout the duration of the court’s proceedings.
Prior to the Secretary of Health’s Face Covering Order on August 31st, the SASD Board of Directors initiated a similar requirement to wear face masks, which also remains in effect. All students, staff, and visitors must continue wearing masks (face coverings) at all times while inside our school buildings. The federal mandate requires that persons must wear a mask when riding district transportation.
The SASD Board and Administration will closely monitor future developments at the State level while following the guidelines of the CDC, PA Dept. of Health, and the PA Dept. of Education with regard to the COVID-19 pandemic.
We appreciate your cooperation as we continue to provide mitigation protocols that help reduce transmission and quarantining, in an effort to keep students in school for in-person learning.
Sincerely,
Dr. Chris Suppo
Superintendent
Shippensburg Area School District
